Re: Weaknesses, relative to the question of evil

With a nod to Ether 12, I'll offer the following:

I have worked on several assembly lines. One, in particular, had a
burn-in room at the end.

Some will not find the assembly-line metaphor instructive, because, of
course, God, being perfect, should not create imperfect creations.

For me, it is quite clear that a perfect God, being able to do
anything, not only could, but _would_ create imperfect creations. But
it would be more correct to say, creations that could become self-
aware before the creation process was complete. More specifically, God
is definitely capable of creating creations capable of participating
in their own creation.

I like what you are saying. As I think Joseph said on occasion, "It tastes
good".

Having babies is so easy, it's easy for us to see this as a not-very-
big thing, but, like many things which "appear small to the
understanding of men" (scripture chase?), turns out to be something
that requires more than just a bit of eternal perspective to achieve.

Thanks to my copy of LDS Collectors Edition CDs, I can tell you that is also
from Ether. I probaly would not have recognized it as being from the story
of how God provided light for the "barges", but I was pointed to Ether 3.

I'm rambling.

God gave us weakness(es). Or, we might prefer to understand that God
_allowed_ us to have weaknesses in order to give us the opportunity to
learn something that can only be learned in learning to deal with
weaknesses, not just to overcome them, not just to find strengths
hidden in them, but also to learn to work around them. And we have to
learn that we can substitute the word "talent" for "weakness" here
with no loss of meaning.

Well, here is where the discussion startted I think, and I will give three
verses, with the substitution you suggested:

Ether 12
26 And when I had said this, the Lord spake unto me, saying: Fools mock, but
they shall mourn; and my grace is sufficient for the meek, that they shall
take no advantage of your TALENT;
27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their TALENT. I give unto
men TALENT that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men
that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me,
and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.
28 Behold, I will show unto the Gentiles their TALENT, and I will show unto
them that faith, hope and charity bringeth unto me--the fountain of all
righteousness.

This is, in my understanding, one of the biggest reasons for this
whole simulation we call mortality. These abilities seem to be
important in the work that God does.

I get the idea that this passge is saying that God uses our weakness to give
us, or help us achieve, humility.

Some good thoughts snipped for the bot.
