Re: General Conference report

I understand that most locals don't attend live every time, and I appreciate
that very much, because it allows us out-of-towners more seats. (I hope you
do get to go once.)

Well, it's not that LDS members here in Utah don't *want* to attend
more often. It's usually quite difficult to get conference tickets;
doled out quite sparingly by the Stake Presidencies to Wards. It'll be
nice when the Tabernacle is re-opened to have both "Conference" venues
open again. Some even attend Conference at the Joseph Smith Memorial
Building, as well, but, IMO, it's just not the same as attending in
those venerable buildings with the General Authorities...

That's why we were fine with only attending one session a day, because it
allowed our girls to have the experience of watching conference on a TV in
someone's living room for the first time in their lives.

Indeed, this is a *very* important tradition for many families here in
Utah. It's among the highlights of the year for many, as family members
gather from the four quarters to be together. There's some serious chow
consumed between sessions and the ensuing family discussions related to
conference addresses often are memorable...

It was also interesting to note the impact of the time difference and how
that affected perceptions and traditions. Our relatives in Utah Valley
talked about "watching conference in pajamas."

Well, a number of families go the opposite way and dress rather nicely
as they sit firmly planted in front of the TV. Conference time really
is a time of worship, note taking, contemplation, and thanksgiving for
manys...

That's the kind of thing I meant about "seeing what it is like for locals."

It's a land of extremes ;-)
