Starting with a disclaimer: I do not mean to be jumping on spelling errors
or typos. I make a sufficient number of them, as anyone who reads these
postings knows, that it hardly behooves me to criticize anyone else. But I
am bothered by wrong use of words such as "chose, choose" and "lose,
loose". In the present case, the word that is meant in the discussion is
"loose". When I am reading, I do not vocalize, or even quite sub-vocalize
what I am reading, but still I am sort of distracted by people "losing"
sins.
In at least the KJV of scriptures, the verb "to loose" has the meaning of
"to set free" while ":to lose" has the meaning "to misplace" or something
similar. Right? So with this in mind, read the appropriate sentences and
maybe you can see why.
I think the power "to loose" is the power to set free. Thus when one is
"loosed" from the bonds of sin, one is freed from the control of sin, and
from the penalties of sin. When one is loosed from the bonds of death, one
has been freed to be alive. When one is loosed from the bonds of matrimony,
one is no longer bound to a spouse.
Would anyone agree that only God (Father, Son or Holy Ghost) has the control
of the power to "loose" anyone from the penalties, etc, of sin? I believe
that is the case. But of course, I am willing to allow Him to have the right
to delegate that power to anyone He pleases, whether Catholic Priest or
Jewish Rabbi. (Or even Muslim whatever)This is not saying I think He has
done that for all these.
One way in which the authority to exercise sealing power is of course the
sealing (or binding) of husband to wife for time and all eternity by
Priesthood ordinances in the Temple. Another is the sealing or binding of a
person to his father and mother, forming a family relationship for time and
eternity. These are as you say. Unfortunately the world seems to think that
the authority to say who is a family, that is to bind a man and woman to
each other as husband and wife, resides in civil government. People seem to
agree that civil government authority extends only until death, hence this
"sealing" ends at death.
