Jeff, I don't have a copy of this manual. I wonder if you could tell
me if this LDS manual happens to inform the reader that the Sabbath, as
commanded by the Ten Commandments was specifically required on Saturday
and not Sunday [1]. On my calendar, the seventh day is Saturday not on
Sunday. And I notice that the Jews to whom this commandment was given,
do indeed celebrate their Sabbath on Saturday. My guess would be that
the Manual omitted that fact.

In addition, does the LDS manual point out that the only reason the LDS
celebrate the Sabbath on the wrong day, Sunday, was because the Church
Council of Laodicea circa 364 CE so ordered the change? My guess would
be that the Manual omitted that fact.

And, does the LDS manual at any point relate the account in Mark
2:23-28 where the Pharasees criticize Jesus for plucking wheat and
eating it on Saturday and Jesus responds that the Sabbath was made for
man and not man for the Sabbath? My guess would be that the Manual
omitted that fact.

I bring up these points because I feel the LDS get carried away with
what I consider a Pharasaical approach to the Sabbath, and practiced on
the wrong day to boot. I see many LDS get carried away, coming up with
what I find to be overzealous and unreasonable restrictions on the
Sabbath. My TBM wife, for example, avoids shopping like it was a
mortal sin, but has no trouble asking me to go out to buy something we
need on Sundays. And the LDS custom of rescheduling Christmas when it
falls on Sunday strikes me as going to far. Sometimes I wonder if
Jesus were to make His Second Coming on a Sunday, would the LDS Church
order Him to reschedule to another day so as not to disturb the
Sabbath?

I also had to laugh that this year our LDS ward held its Halloween
trick-or-trunk Saturday night so as not to disturb Monday Family Home
Evening when Halloween actually is.
