We also assign numbers to all the measurements of temperature between
the freezing and boiling point of water at a defined atmospheric
pressure. I'm not sure the names of colors or the numbers for degrees
has much relevance to the situation I was describing.
Or is there a name or a number than can be assigned to someone who is 2
degrees or shades to the left of a critic? Or to someone who is exactly
halfway between the two end points?
I, personally, find "critic" and "apologist" to be fairly useless labels
to apply to others and am not aware of any "green" or "yellow" terms
that apply to the continuum between them.

Perhaps. It depends.
