If one does decide that there was a great apostasy and that JS was a
prophet and the BoM true then one needs to decide which of the dozens of
groups that trace their roots and origins back to JS is the true / right
one. There are other choices besides the Utah church.
I highly recommend one read the Book of the Law of the Lord translated
through James Strang.

Strang claimed to be JS's lawful successor and that he was annointed by
angels the same day that JS was killed.
And for every reason / proof that can be given that JS was a true
prophet, the same can be done for Strang. He translated two ancient
records akin to the BoM - The Book of the Law of the Lord and the Voree
Plates. He had "Thus saith the Lord" revelations.
So if one accepts JS then one ought to give Strang a look see too!
