When I went to bless my little boy, I specifically went into the blessing
thinking that I wasn't going to say all those stereotyped things that are
always said. Especially the mission part because I have quite a dislike for
the way serving a mission has become the mormon equivalent of tribal rites
of initiation to adulthood. Half way into the blessing I find myself
blessing him with the desire to serve a mission, marry in the temple etc
etc. One of the ladies in the ward took shorthand of the blessing, and gave
us a copy of it. When I read through it, I didn't remember saying half the
things she had recorded (my wife remembered tho).
