Jim responds: Mark, you might wish to consider how your posts in this
thread appear to other readers who can Google the names of the sons of
Horus all by themselves and see that what I've presented is pretty much
the truth. I admire your consistency and singleness of mind in
steadfastly defending your faith, but unreasonable rejection of
authoritative sources others can verify may not help your cause.
In Internet forums for people who have left the LDS Church, there are,
besides the usual collection of exit stories, often discussions of what
caused them to leave the Church. There's quite a number who say that
unreasonable apologist tactics -- such as yours in rejecting sources
others can verify -- convinced them that the apologist position was
untenable and helped them make their decisions to leave. Indeed,
several have specifically mentioned unreasonable arguments on FAIR,
FARMS, and Jeff Lindsay's website as having convinced them to leave. I
find it ironic that several have stated that as TBMs, they turned to
these apologist sites for ammunition against critics only to find them
to be bunk.
You don't have to take my word for it, either. You can check this out
for yourself. To read these exit stories and discussions of why people
have left the LDS Church, I recommend that you check out the Recovery
>>From Mormonism and View From The Fringe websites and discussion boards.
There are many others, but this should give you a starting point.
But back to the topic at hand. It is the Church's claim and your claim
that Smith's names in LDS scripture for the jars are correct. It is,
therefore, your obligation to back up your claim. You can do this
quite easily by presenting either non-LDS Egyptologists' sources
verifying Smith's names, or references to actual ancient Egyptian
documents which spell out Smith's claimed names. Until you present
such backup evidence, your claims are baseless and undefended.
And please remember that while you mull this over, other readers of
this thread are probably Googling the information and will find out on
their own that my claims are verified by any number of sources out
there. If you remain silent, merely unreasonably rejecting sources
other can verify, your claims for the Book of Abraham remain baseless
and undefended.
