I know nothing about what Puin is up to these days - but this one
quote has been bandied around altogether too much. I also do not know
what word he used that is translated as incomprehensible.
As it stands the statement is ridiculous. It is not true that a fifth<snip> ...
of the Qur'anic text is incomprehensible....
Comment:-
You are quite right it is ridiculous and totally superficial. Does anyone in
this forum intelligently believe that this allusion to Gerd Puin's erstwhile
thesis has anything to do with the posted author's serious in-depth study of
ancient Qur'anic manuscripts or texts? Does anyone seriously believe that
Houghton has any deep understanding of the Sanaa paleography or palimpsests
or has even read any of Puin's published papers on this highly technical
subject? Isn't any wonder then, as you rightly suggest, that he would
blindly echo the distorted "that a fifth of the Qur'anic text is just
incomprehensible" mantra? It's as though readers are expected to naïvely
believe, paraphrasing, "many Islamophobes will ignorantly tell you
otherwise" about "Puin's findings"!
