That is why the believer in seeking God's face must follow the way of
submission (islam) and strive to cut himself free from the distortions
of thought and perception that result from his human limitations and
imperfections. The Arabic word for the replacement of self-centeredness
toward God centeredness is fana', the annihilation of ego, the spiritual
abandonment of self in the immenseness of the Absolute. The Qur'an tells
us that at the end only "Allah's face" will subsist. We respect, honour
and take guidance from the Prophets (peace be on them all) and from the
Qur'an. But we are careful not to let our devotion to them become a form
of shirk (idolatry). We must not let them or anything else become a
distraction that keeps us from drawing closer to the Absolute.

We must never forget and always strive to fulfil our real destiny:

inna allaahi wa-inna ilayhi raaji'uun
To Allah we belong and to Him is our return.
