Peace be with you,
>Does Islam have a Devil like Christianity?
Yes, the devil, called Shaytan or Iblis in the Qur'an is of
the Jinn race (energy beings). He is in a place where he
can see us but we cannot see him (and his legions).
There are good Jinn and bad Jinn and they are the
"demons" that possess people, as mentioned numerously
in the New Testament.
The Devil's purpose is to lead all human beings to hell
with him, his having already been sentenced to hell for
not prostrating to Adam's Ruh (Spirit, which was given
to the human beings from Allah). After being condemned
he asked God to allow him to tempt the human beings
until the Judegement Day. In Sebe 20, Allah te'Allah says
"Surely Shaytan accomplished his task", which is Allah's
hindsight pointing to the fact that the Devil was successful
in leading most of mankind and the jinn to hell with him.
>Is there the concept of hell?
Yes, there is paradise or heaven for those whose good
deeds are greater than their evil deeds, and hell is for those
whose evil deeds are greater than the good deeds.
There is one catch, however: if a person does not wish to
reach Allah spiritually in one's lifetime, their good deeds do
not count (from Zumer 65 combined with Rum 31).
>Under what circumstances woudl one go to heaven or hell according to Islam.
If one wishes to reach Allah spiritually in one's lifetime, one has
to chance to have his/her good deeds outweigh their sins. This
purpose is summed up in Acts of the Apostles 17:24-27 which says
the the only reason Allah created the human beings was to
"seek Him, perhaps reach out for Him and find Him". Nothing matters
to a human being but fulfilling this design. In the Qur'an the order
to
wish to reach Allah is given in Rum 31, "Turn to Allah and be the owner
of taqwa (piety) and do not become one of those Mushrik's (those who
put either idols or their vices in the place of worship before Allah)."
Turning to Allah (being munipe) results in reaching Him spiritually
within one's lifetime. This is the guarantee of Allah where Allah says
"...(Allah) guides to Himself him who turns (to Him)..." (Shura 13).
This is the foundation of the one religion; it is the basis for all the
so-called religions and within all modern religions there are people
who are fulfilling this design, regardless of which religion they
conform
to in name.
I am at your service,
Robert McCall
