I believe that we evolved from pond scum is rather bizarre, about
as bizarre that we came came from a crashed UFO...which some
people believe and which may be just as hard to PROVE as
the evolution THEORY.
Just where is this "literal scientific truth"? Evolution is a theory.
It has not been been proven as a FACT. You people copy and
paste all these qoutes from "he said, she said" but I I have seen
no scientific EVIDENCE that evolution is beyond a doubt a TRUE
fact.
It seems to me that if we evolved from pond scum that the process
would still be continuing. What stopped it? Why is the pond scum
not producing more new species? Everything has a purpose and we
see in the animal kingdom specialized critters that accomplish
given task based on thier instincts. I do believe in adaptation which
is different than evolution. The ground squirrils on each side of the
grand canyon are the same but behave differently because they had
to adapt to the change caused by the canyon.
We, the human race, are always searching for answers to explain
our existance. A true scientist looks at all possibilities and should
not accept a theory as fact until proven. To me, creation is just as
much a theory as evolution and bears as much scientific scutiny.
It could be possible the two theories are linked but there is so much
fighting between the two factions that the real questions may not be
answered.
To expect some one to believe in a unproven cause is ludicrus. To
expect everyone to believe the same thing is ludicrus. We are not
robots programed the same.
You cannot claim that creation is a myth when in actuality it is a
theory. It has not been proven to be a myth.
Belief in something is part of part of the human pchye. We all feel
a need to grasp the unknown. When we cannot grasp it we try to
explain it to ourselves in a way that is acceptiple to us. Once we
accept our beliefs it sometimes becomes so stong that no other
option would seem plausible. That is where we become different
and stand our ground in acceptance of our beliefs instead of
opening our minds to new possibilties.
This mindset is what drove the members of Heavens Gate to
suicide. Their belief was so stong that it overcame their very
existance. The same can be said of the Branch Davidians and
other cults. It is the same mindset that drove the Manson family
to murder and the same mindset that turns Muslims into suicide
bombers.
The suicide-murders that took place at Jonestown had deep impact
on me as I was in my teen years. It put in my mind not to believe
in all the things that other people accept and taught me to question
and ponder other possibilties than those put forth by sociaty as
truth.
I hope this helps explain how people adapt to their beliefs and build
their world around it. I can understand how people can accept a God
of creation and I can also understand that if a person believes in a
cause or subject that it can become a "religion" to them of sorts as
in the case of evolution. One group is trying to outdo the other based
on their beliefs...niether of which has been proven. Our court system
is built on that very priciple and the ones who can produce facts will
win...ask O.J. and Jackson.
One of the "problems" with Christianity is the lack of unity. This lack
of unity causes splits within the church based on many factors. Some
factors include what to believe, and what to accept, and it is all
based
on decisions of men who are not infallible. This is not only a
Christian
problem but one faced by all religions. There are many different sects
within the Islamic, Buddist, and Hindu religions also. These
differences
are formulated by the the opinions of men. Men who may disaggree
with something that does not suit their personnal beliefs and may find
their religion to restrictive to support their lifestyle. The
acceptance of
Homosexuallity is case in point. Some "modern" churches are giving
into pressure from sociaty to restructure their belief system in order
to
allow homosexuals into their congregations. The same can be said
about the acceptance of the theory of evolution. The main problem
facing these "modern" churches is that you have a book called the
Holy Bible which is supposed the be God`s Holy Word and which
rejects homosexuallity and does not explain evolution, so if the church
accepts these things as being ok and acceptable then they are going
against the very principles upon which they are founded. This causes
confusion within their congregations because as I stated earlier people
within the congregation believe in God`s Holy Word and accept it as
truth regardless of the decisions of their leaders. Of course many
within these congregations will adapt to the beliefs of the standards
set down by their church because they feel a need of believing in their
leaders who are supposed to be God`s messangers but have the power
to change or twist his Word on a whim.
This crowd following mentality is what I reject in both religion and
evolution. If I follow the crowd I become suceptible to giving away
my very life to a cause that I may not actually believe in but will
accept over time as truth thereby changing my original beliefs. I will
not let my life be given over to another Jonestown.
Another thing that impressed me as a teen was the old TV show
called Dragnet. The actors main line was "Just the facts ma`am".
That is all I am seeking, just the facts.
As far as morality, after thinking over all the messages posted on this
subject I feel it is morally wrong for Christians to give in and adapt
to
the wishes and wants of sociaty when their main focus should be on
their God and his Word ...not on "things of the world" I feel that
PTET
may have a good point after all...and it hurts me to say that.
On the other hand I feel it is morally wrong for people within the
scientific
community to push theory as fact.
So...The real question is...Does morality exit in America, and
if so who decides what is morally right (or wrong). You can
only base morality on individuel feelings of the person. What may
seem right to one may not be acceptible to others. Morality
is just as hard to define as a word such as "prejudice" and
"hypocracy".
I`m sure the Heavens Gate cult felt that they were morally right in
what
they did, or they would not have committed suicide. Unlike Jonestown
where some members were forced to drink poison and some where
outright murdereded, the Heavens Gate group went to their deaths
peacefully.
