Re: Baha'i Faith and Bibliolatry

Hi Mike-
Here is the quote below and I cannot in m wildest imagination see how you can come up with the ideas it is saying it is "bibliograph" and "trumps everything else". I also says==
,,,His point is that we should not impose it on the scientist, but we should have the courage to make these statements and not be afraid of stating them and saying we have no proof..."

On the other hand I would say that scientists have no right to impose what they feel as truth upon religionists. That is not how the harmony of science and religion principle is supposed to work. We all should be aware that what we now believe as truth is only relative to what we may discover later as we continue our search.

I do not know of any Baha'is trying to force these truths on scientists or others.

"We must not be afraid in stating truths in spite of the fact that

they may
run against what the biologist, the astronomer, the physicist, etc.,
say.
His point is that we should not impose it on the scientist, but we
should
have the courage to make these statements and not be afraid of stating

them
and saying we have no proof. We must admit that we have no proof, but

state
these are our teachings and express the hope science will prove them.

These
statements are divine Revelation and we believe in them. We should not

do
what the Muslim and Christian leaders have done and compromise. It is

a very
subtle form of corruption that the Muslim leaders have introduced into

the
Qur'an (regarding marriage, astronomy, etc.,). If science discovers a

fact
contrary to the text of the teachings, the Baha'is must adhere to the

text
of the teachings, even if it takes a thousand years to prove it as it

did
with the text of the Qur'an," (Surih 36) and (Answered Questions page

Because of what that quote I mentioned says. E.g. don't use the
scientific
stuff to inform the religious debate or aid its understanding, as that
is then
"compromising" with science which "destroys" the religion. Or at least
that's
the "drift" I get from it. If the religion, literally, would say
evolution for example
is "false", then _toss out all the science_, right then and there,
lest one
"damage" the religion. That is the "bibliolatry": the religion is
absolute gospel
dogma that _trumps everything else_. Trump trump trump. But maybe I am
not actually getting the real drift...

Hi Mike-
I know of no such quote. Can you please post it for me.

I mentioned it in my original post. Didn't you see that? You yourself
quoted it in a post here last month:

See above.

Like I said I know of no Baha'is who try to force truth on anyone.

Ah.

[Moderator: Doug was not quoting the Qoran and Some Answered Questions,
he was paraphrasing them as he understands them. When Baha'is call
something a "quote" they usually mean the exact text from an authorized
translation. Tom]
