You say "it is useful". Before you explained your aim was ""to become more
skillful at reading [Baha'i] texts." Is that the reason you find learning
Persian and Arabic useful? Are there other reasons as well?

Arabic, not Persian, but since I am relying only on books I have
purchased, my ability to read is very limited. However, a few years
ago, I surprised myself and was actually able to recognize some Arabic
words in an online version of the Qur'an.

No, the only reason is to be able to have greater insight into one of
the original languages of the Baha'i Revelation.

Because I submit to you again that learning those languages is not necessary
for learning Baha'u'llah's universal message to humanity. The more deeply
you delve into that message the more use you will find for rising to the aid
of your neighbor and supporting and encouraging all humanity to aid the in
the development of virtues and the means for security and prosperity.
Baha'u'llah's message is clear, inspiring, beautiful and translatable.

I don't see a contradiction between trying to learn a language and
developing virtues.

It will be helpful if that translator were surrounded by people who thought
for themselves, learned to think critically about language and meaning, and
did not believe the translation based upon that translators own opinion of
himself.

Even if they never heard of the Soviet Union or the Cold War?
