Good morning Kent
I did not understand the other message. Are you saying that this Newsgroup is now fixed? That no one should have the troubles we have had for so very long using this Newsgroup?
The newsgroup comes through BCCA, and that may be why the newsgroup has been having problems. As a result of my involvement in another BCCA group, it was found that the filters applied by the BCCA server was filtering out and preventing the sending of messages using even supposedly innocent words like c_h_i_n_a. I have written it this way, as otherwise the filter would prevent this message from getting through (and maybe some other innocent word in the body of my message below may stop this one getting through). They are reworking the filters but I dunno...
But anyway, my reason for the first post was simply to ascertain whether or not the public news server I have been forced to use (as my new ISP has no access to any newsgroups) would actually send the message through, and not only did it send it, it also got through the BCCA filters :)
Most Baha'is that I speak with on these lists are here to clarify beliefs or protect their conception of the Baha'i Faith.
Most of those who particpate within these groups are from the "western" (i.e. Christian) culture. It is inevitable that many of the ways in which things are done in our society will, regardless our best intentions, filter into our approach to this Cause of the Beloved. I firmly believe and am convinced that each is doing their best, but so subtle are some of the influences that they permeate regardless and without awareness. As one example, for many Christians it is important that they gain agreement by the person they seek to convert. This is as much an insecurity on their part within their own beliefs, as the accepted way in which a person is converted. The more people that they convince that theirs is the right way, the more secure their own belief becomes - "see, that person agrees with me, I must therefore be right". In the same way, acceptance of this Faith and all that it entails is a massive step, and for many that step can only be taken in many much smaller steps, and those steps can only be taken from a known base into an unknown direction. This is scary stuff - how many are prepared and able to completely step away in one stride from all that they have known and accepted? I admit to having also immense difficulty with the transition from my own background to the ideal Baha'i attitude, and that after around 37 years or so a member of this glorious Faith, and I have spoken with many who have been Baha'is far longer, even to being brought up in this Faith, who say they are similarly struggling to overcome the influences of the predominating society.
With understanding and compassion, we can each one of us help each one of us to overcome these issues and difficulties. With love and an all-embracing acceptance, we can find those points of agreement, and use them as building blocks in our mutual exploration and need to know the truth. With encouragement and wisdom, we can be helped and can help in the unfolding of the flower of spiritual conciousness in every individual within the context of the Sacred Texts. With self-sacrifice and self-abnegation we can every one assist in the attainment of the spiritual ideal in society.
I would like to return briefly to the tropic of this thread in a direct manner, rather than the indirect manner used thus far, and would do so using three quotes that have piqued my interest in relation to the matter of Justice and Law:
"In answer we stated: There is no doubt that the purpose of a divine law is the education of the human race, the training of humanity." (Abdu'l-Baha, The Promulgation of Universal Peace, p. 411)
"The purpose of justice is the appearance of unity among men." (Baha'u'llah, Tablets of Baha'u'llah, p. 66)
"...which would but dimly reflect the divine purpose for this age, which is no less than the establishment of the reign of divine love, justice, and wisdom in the world, under and in conformity to the Divine Law." (Shoghi Effendi, Principles of Bahai Administration, p. 1)
I like your approach much better.
(bows head) Thank you. And regardless whether each of us differ in our view or agree (for right and wrong do not enter into this equation, as we may both be right and wrong at the same time), it is my hope that what I write may be of assistance in your own exploration of the truth, in the same way as posts of your own that I have read in the past have triggered lines of thought that have assisted my own pursuit of understanding.
Warmest greetings
Romane
