Do you know what Jonathan Swift's *A Tale of a Tub* is about ? It is
about the various Christian denominations and their beliefs and
practices -- yet it is very satirical. Or take a letter I just found
from the Italian humanist Lorenzo Valla, over five centuries old.
Valla writes the letter from the point of view of the Devil, praising
the modern church for the great job it has done misleading people
spiritually. So religion has always been the subject of satire I
think. But again, it is only the cant and pretense of religion that I
write against.
