Doug,
You make some good points. In my thinking, public criticism is also
different from backbiting in that it's not done, as it were, behind
anyone's back. One of the bad things about backbiting, and it's not
the only one, is that the person who's fault are being discussed is not
aware that the discussion even going on. I also think there is a
difference, as I said to Albert, between to critique of ideas, and
merely dwelling on someone else's personal shortcomings. The latter is
*never* healthy, while the former is essential for civil discourse.
