Of course, saying it that way can give a misleading impression. For
example, the Quran clearly allows for certain interreligious
marriages. So since Islam allows Muslims to live together, have
children, and raise a family with non-Muslims, it would be silly to
suggest that Quran is against casual socializing or friendly, warm
relations with non-Muslims.

In the above "friend" is more like "an ally whom you are dependent on".
