RE: calendar Re: Divine revelation and social construction

Dear Silvermask,

What is important for me is not the geometry of numbers and how the planet
earth rotates around the sun. In fact we know that the mathematical formula
is not as simple that you explained in your email. The planet earth rotates
around the sun on an oval orbit and not a circular orbit. And as you
expressed even with number 12 and 360 degrees there are some fractions left.
I am sure mathematicians and physicists have already come up with the exact
formulas on how the earth rotates around the sun. What is more important for
me as explained in my previous email is that two Manifestations of God,
namely the Bab and Baha'u'llah, have ordained this Baha'i Badi Calendar. The
names of the months and the names of the days of the months are the
attributes of God and this will be the Cause of spiritualization of mankind.
By the way we could have a few calendars working at the same time; for
example, I think we shall continue to have a lunar calendar in Baha'i
dispensation as well. Some of Baha'i anniversaries will be observed based on
lunar calendar, i.e. the Birthday of the Bab and Baha'u'llah. And maybe some
scientists come up with a different kind of calendar in future based on
metric or something else that may make sense for scientific purposes. Right
now where I live I am used to 4 different calendars, and I use them for
different purposes.

Best regards,
Firouz

Hello Firouz,

I appreciate your deep sentiments and the passionate illustration that 19
months in a year makes better sense than 12.

As you know, the 12 month a year calendar is derived from the geometrical
principles, such as, one orbit of the Earth around the Sun is divided into
360 degrees. That divided by 12 gives us the number of degrees, i.e. 30
degrees travelled by the Earth in one month, and then the Earth moves on
approximately 1 degree in the duration that is a little more than one
revolution on its own axis. In the end, we have 365.25 revolutions of the
earth on its own axis when it is has completed one full orbit around the
Sun.

Now. Please tell me - us, how you think 19 months a years makes better sense
than the 12 months per year.

Given the chance, I would like to see a Metric Calendar in which there are
100 months a year, a hundred days a month and a hundred hours a day, a
hundred hours a day, a hundred minutes an hour, and a hundred seconds a
minute. THAT should make the BEST sense, if you ask me.

The floor is yours! Convince me! :-)
