Re: Humankind "forgetful of its God"

Dear Susan-
I heard and interesting comment by a TV preacher this morning as I was surfing for a program. He said that when we fear a snake, or some ferocious animal, a disease etc. then we are showing faith in that animal or disease to hurt us. I immediately thought of fear of God meaning we have faith that God's laws will punish us if we do wrong, and that God's Mercy tempers His Justice.

What was this passage have to do with fear?

"You ask him about the fear of God: perhaps the friends do not realize that
the majority of human beings need the element of fear in order to discipline
their conduct? 

As I said before, fear may produce good conduct but it doesn't produce
faith.
