Geez! That life formed easily on EARTH is an outcome I'm not
questioning. What I question is the probability that the EARTH ITSELF
was formed in such a pristine condition. For Salk's sake, this planet
was hit by a Mars-sized PLANET!!! What are the odds that Earth-like
planet, at 1 AU (or equivalent depending upon star size and age), is
impacted with an object nearly it's equal and survives to have the
necessary implements (relatively slight tilt, a "just-right" speed of
rotation, and a super-efficient magnetic field)?
You dance around that by focusing on what happens afterwards. It's a
great political tactic, but not one that earns you any brownie points
for answering a statistical problem. You're good at statistics, why
don't you draft a model based on such questions as impact probability,
temperature bands for organic molecules, and radiation dosage. How many
planets to you come up with?
Now, for any planet that has Earth-like conditions hospitable to our
form of life, it probably does evolve rapidly and using the most
efficient means available. But our planet's FORMATION seems most
unlikely.
