I'm generally an admirer of Wagner (as many here are probably
aware), but I've never been able to warm to _Parsifal_.

The last time I discussed Parsifal with one of the great Wagner
scholars of our day, he said he still didn't understand it --
that, after a lifetime of studying Wagner's operas.

I also remember one of his students contemplated studying the
sketch/autograph history of Parsifal and he remarked to the student
"Good! Then you can explain to me what it means!", or something to
that effect.
