and he's the totally gay friend of one of the main
characters on the series "Heroes." Or at least he was
the totally gay friend of one of the main characters on
the series, but then the network changed their minds.

No, they didn't get rid of the character. And, no, they
didn't appear to rewrite the character, either. They just
kind of decided that he's no longer gay:
