actually, "200 American" was a no-budget film. everyone worked
for free - the actors, the crew, everyone. the two elevator
scenes were shot in 30 minutes - the super of the building was
kicking them out just as they were finishing up the scenes.
Even these movies require a budget. Working for free isn't that unusual,
even in Hollywood, especially on small projects - a friend of a friend,
some production manager you've worked with first film as a producer, etc.
But you still need equipment, and all sorts of expendables, and
film/video. It's pretty amazing how quickly all that adds up.
of course you're correct. but i was just quoting what the
writer/director/producer said. his exact words were "no-budget
film."
