I grew up in Canoga Park, not too far away. Topanga was really the
place to live, wasn't it? Before Laurel Canyon and Wonderland Avenue,
where I dropped by for a while. Lots of communes and hippies running
around, which naturally put it top on my list of possible places to go.
Geographic undesirability killed that, of course, though I guess that
was one of its raisons d'etre.
Drove through a year or two back. Still teeming with hippies and
bikers. Hasn't changed all that much, though there's an enormous
Indian temple not too far away.
Now you're in Hollywood? I lived by Yamashiro until relatively
recently. Don't mean to pigeonhole you but I'm picturing you in one of
those great little courtyard cottages off Fountain or Melrose, just a
stone's throw from the gay Pavillions. Where the distinguished gay men
of a certain age go to settle down.
