in the context of spelling consistency by Shakespeare (in his signature
and elsewhere)
[tim]
*sigh* Haven't I done this one before? [checking] Oh, in a
different newsgroup.

The one that torques my goat is the misquote "Consistency is the
hobgoblin of little minds."
I'm sorry that your goat is in distress, Tim (and that Frank is
likewise ruffled of feathers).
You quote what I said, but any "misquotation" did not come from me.
What I said was:
I was going to wonder if dear Oscar had had something astringent to
say about consistency, but a little help from Google(tm) assures me
it was ralph waldo emerson instead.
or, to rephrase, "someone said something about consistency, I thought
it was Oscar Wilde, but I find it was Ralph Waldo Emerson instead". I
then put the word "hobgoblin" in my signature to make clear the epigram
I was referring to.
I did not put any abbreviated quote into this discussion. You are the
one who introduced the without-foolish quote here.
