<tachyon@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> reports:
Last Sunday I was a proctor for the grades 4-6 division of the
county spelling bee, meaning that each time the 15-second timer went
off I was one of the people circling (it was a written competition)
misspelled words. Most of the entrants (including the four children
I was in charge of) got most of the 61 words wrong, but I wanted to
pass on to ba in pa that one of the few words all four of my group
spelled correctly was "linguistics".
sterling kids, all four of them.
"lingusitics" is an extraordinarily common typo. 38,300 google
webhits, including many from the sites of major universities and
academic publishers.
