now I would have written "jived with my own experience" in
that sentence.
hmmm - without looking it up, I would have thought
"gibed" had something to do with jokes, or alternatively,
a mistake in sailing (in which the boom moves in a very
rapid manner across the heads of those sitting in the
boat, so if you realise you've made that error, you yell
"gybe-oh!" (nb spelling) and everyone ducks, or gets clonked.
heavenly days, haven't used THAT mental rolodex card for
years. last time I was sailing was on the Norfolk Broads
in 1963 or so.
