A Man who Sired 64 Children he did not support

The law in Utah is that an attempt must be made to identify the
biological father of a mother on welfare. Of course, many times it is
impossible to make any such identification. Several women in one area
of the state came to the welfare office repeatedly with remarkably
similar stories. Asked about the biological father of a child, such a
woman answered that he was a truck driver she met in a bar and his
name was Smith or Brown or Johnson. Obviously, he couldn't be traced.
These women had 4, 5 and 6 children and each time came in with the
same truck-driver-in-a-bar story for each child.
Welfare workers believed there was something troubling about these
stories, especially since the mothers were very primly dressed.
Apparently, they were the plural "wives" of a polygynist who, although
a millionaire, might have financial difficulty supporting offspring
sired by so many different women. DNA tests of the women's children
showed that 64 had the same biological father.
Last I read, he was still fighting attempts to test his DNA. Someone
speaking for him stated, "He does not admit he is a polygamist." [I
prefer to use the correct term "polygynist" to describe one man-
multiple wives rather than the more ambiguous "polygamist."]
I wonder if Desmond will end up out-doing this fellow.
