so, at a time when a historically consequential revolution is
unfolding in libya, male unemployment in this country stands at a
staggering high, male academic under-achievement is even beginning to
spark interest in academia (though, predictably, it's all the fault of
the boys) and a time when america appears to be ceding its place in
the world, the focus of tina brown's maiden newsweek magazine issue is
all about feminist triumphalism. You know, it's a funny thing: men,
more so than women, facilitated and expedited the feminist movement -
and, for that, men have been vilified by the very people they helped
in the 1960s and 1970s. At the dawn of the 1970s, men possessed all
the power - yet it was men who ceded that power in the name of social
justice and to right old wrongs. To hear these old #### say it, they
(white women) did it all themselves - but it was men in elite
positions who made it all possible. For our troubles, however, men now
live in a society where fathers are utterly diminished and held in
ridicule, male-bashing is institutionalized in the academy, men are
guilty until proved innocent in matters pertaining to sexual violence
(you might be all interested to know that women are at least as likely
as men to engage in domestic violence and women are more likely than
are men to engage in violence against children), and young white males
are routinely vilified (and denied employment opportunities) because
of the colour of their skin and their gender. And, oh yes: women still
want to financially piggy-back off of man even though, thanks to a
gynocentric education system, women now predominate in the
professional schools and on our college campuses. Men sold themselves
out and men allowed themselves to be stabbed in the back by the people
they tried to help. Isn't that wonderful?
