Shucks, I missed out! That wasn't the case when _I_
was working on an "Oh" major (engineering) years ago.
Nor do I see much of a difference today on the college
campuses around here. Or are techies stars only _after_
they land the six-figure job at Google or some such place?

IME, the girls say "Oh" because (check one or more
reasons) they (a) know next to nothing about the subject;
(b) realize they are unable to keep up their end of an
intelligent conversation about the subject; (c) expect
the "Oh" major boy to be a grind and no fun on dates;
(d) are aware that most boys studying tech fields are
mostly from families of modest means so she risks
marrying down if the relationship gets serious; or
(e) has discovered that "Oh" major students are
generally more politically and socially conservative
than other students on campus (which means they're
almost certainly a lot more conservative than _her_).
