Yes, Denise, I like it very much. I like your phrase "the tendency to
strain for gender inclusiveness when discussing America's military." That
very succinctly sums up the problem. The Western striving for "equality"
causes people to blind themselves to the truth that you so clearly describe
in your essay: "War is an arena in which men are uniquely, if unavoidably,
burdened. They make up the vast majority of lives cruelly cut short..."
I also liked how you addressed the "if women ran the world, there would be
no wars" canard. I find this pretended moral superiority of women extremely
annoying and appreciated your articulate rebuttal.
The unwillingness to acknowledge the disproportionate sacrifices of men in
war is just one more symptom of the lack of appreciation of men in our
culture. We need to stop closing our eyes to the many contributions of men
and learn to be grateful. Thanks for an essay that draws attention to this.
