Hey Andre,
For some reason beginning today my newsreader service
(Supernews) is not picking up your posts. I can find your
posts via a Google search but I really don't want to use
Google for usenet purposes. [...]

OK. It's due to us having both new computers, and a new
high speed Internet service. So, my using telnet on ncf.ca
(Which on any browser on my new computer doesn't work
*only* with soc.men but not any of the other 28 newsgroups
stored on my favlist. ) is no longer an option for posting
and reading soc.men.

Hmmm. If you were using Ms. Internet-Explorer,

Which I am not using. I tend to use Firefox as my browser.
Netscape and IE are my backups ( Once I had the new computer,
I downloaded each one, to try each out and compare them. ),
and Pegasus Mail is my off line e-mail program.

I'd suggest
creating a new news account for the new ISP, downloading
the newsgroup list (should be swift with the new high-speed
service), then subscribing to soc.men and your other 28 news
groups under the new account. I realize you don't use Redmond's
best as your news reader but maybe this hypothetical suggestion
gives you a useful clue. Good luck, Andre.

Thanks. I may get around to trying such after I get a bit more
used to some of the other new features of the new service.
Between having gotten somewhat comfy with Google groups,
and putty as a telnet type program for specific soc.men
postings, its pretty much covered for the moment.

Most of the other newsgroups in that 28 list are either ones that
I rarely check, or have very low traffic, etc.

That is, when we're home, as we are now. The odd thing is
that, when we're at my in-laws place, on their systems,
telnet to soc.men works fine. <shrug>

"Telnet." Kind'a like "stone knives and bearskins" isn't it? :-)

Good Trek reference. :-) Yeah, it is, but for most of my newsgrouping,
it works well enough for me, and for how I want to read and post.

Plus, reading groups that way, I see posts in order of their posting
time/date, which actually makes following a busy thread easier
than Google groups-like threading.

Besides, I'm having great fun downloading all sorts of nifty
naval and space pictures from the Web. <g>

Andre
