I'm currently reading Vincent Bugliosi's massive tome on the JFK
killing, and there are some very interesting details about the early
life, and about the mother, of Lee Harvey Oswald. His dad died
suddenly before Lee Jr was born, and besides an older brother,
he had an older half brother, from his mom's first marriage.

Now, remember that this is in the 1930s, when the bleating
wimminz claim that women were " oppressed ". His mom, in
terms of the half brother, had divorced that kid's father, and
the father didn't get to see the boy for 16 years. But, dad sent
$$$ faithfully, every month. When Lee Sr offered to adopt that
boy, the mother said no, because it would end that flow of $$$.

Doesn't that sound... familiar nowadays ?

That was a rhetorical question, right?

Right. <bg>

How's the JFK book by Bugliosi?

To say the least, definitive. I am overwhelmed at the work and
detail that he provides in this massive tome ( 1,612 pages with
index and bibliography, with end notes on an accompanying
CD-ROM ) makes clear that this is *the* definitive work on the
topic, and the definitive and unanswerable rebuttal to the
conspiracy whack jobs. Excellent.

While I'm no fan of his politics, I
am a big fan of him and his books. I've read "Helter Skelter," "The
Sea Will Tell," Till Death Us Do Part," (got that one hardcover at a
library sale for 50 cents--a true bargain) and "Outrage" where
Bugliosi ripped apart the team that prosecuted O.J. Simpson. What's
the full name of the JFK book? I've got to read that one.

" Reclaiming History; The Assassination of President John F. Kennedy
",
$49.95 US list price. 10.1" X 7" X 3.1" $32.97 on amazon.com, with
free
shipping.

But, at least back then, for every leech woman like the mater
Oswald, there were Good Women, and depictions of Good
Women to balance things out. We're MS-ing that these days.

Oh, and on a side note, from Hollyweird, if you think that the
Lindsay Lohan thing is just nuts, Google Mindy McCready,
a country star of the late 90s ( I have one of her CDs, and there
were some very nice and touching songs there ). I won't even
try to sum up her last decade, but its more of a mess than
Lohan, Spears, et al. Including a guy who allegedly tried to
kill her, *after* which she made a baby with him. This week,
shes busted again for assaulting her mommy...

I'm fairly familiar with C&W singers and music but I don't know the
name Mindy McCready.

Her career kinda shot up and flamed out rather briskly, which is
too bad, as she was a good singer, and had some good albums.
But, her first one sold the most, and she was not quite 20 at that
time. That CD was "Ten Thousand Angels ", and the second CD
is the first one that I heard songs from, " If I Don't Stay The
Night ", with a very touching song titled " You'll Never Know "
that hit me just right in the relatively immediate aftermath of
my separation.

From there, it was on to Shania Twain. <g>

Of course, country singers can and do mess up
their lives just like any other entertainers. Look at what happened
to old time greats like Hank Williams (the original, not Jr.) and
Johnny Cash.

True, though Mindy seems to setting some records at this; One
legal case against her just ended last week, and in a couple of
days after that, she managed to get arrested again. On an
assault matter, no less.

And, the whole deal of sleeping with her b/f who had been charged
with trying to kill her isn't very good, either... Prior to which, she
had
dated Dean Cain ( Superman in " Lois & Clark ) for a while.

As for Paris Hilton and Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan, if you look
into their parents (especially their mothers who all see themselves as
pals to their daughters) it is easy to see that they are products of
their upbringing although no talking head on TV or gossip columnist
ever bothers to point that out.

Indeed. One aspect of this that is in the Bugliosi book is Oswald's
upbringing, as his dad died two months before Lee was born, and
his mom would have gotten along well with Parg. At one point, her
2nd husband, Lee's dad, offered to adopt her son by her first
husband ( Divorce ), but Marguerite would have none of it, as it
would have meant the end of the Free Money from hubby for the
first son.

Does that sound familiar around here at all ?

What was that Madonna line from her song Vogue: " They
had style, they had grace. " Not no more...

Eww...quoting Madonna is forbidden here. I don't want to even think
about her now that she seems to be out of the spotlight. <g>

<laughs> OK, I hear you on that. Still, she did have some fun tunes
in the 80s ( A time of generally happier pop music, as my wife likes
to mention. ).
