Real love? It doesn't seem likely to me - at least not in the majority
of cases. It's supply and demand.

I saw a documentary on the health channel (apparently, Americans are
fascinated by this phenomenon.) One man was nerdy and middle aged but
a
nice guy and the other was a typical, middle-class red-blooded
American
man who didn't particularly stand out one way or the other.

Both men were in their early 40's and both wound up seeing women in
their
early 30's. The women were attractive, but mature and already had a
child each.

Their lives in Russia didn't seem that bad. Consider: In the states
there are lots of places that aren't paradise either. In theory, both
of
these men would have been fantastic catches for a country/working
class
woman in the states.

The documentary showed that a year later the couples were both very
happy
and in love. State dept. statistics show that 80% of these marriages
are
together after 7 years compared to half for locals in the states.

Yep, according to the INS (Immigration & Naturalization Service) the 5
year divorce rate between American men and Eastern European (mostly
Russian) women is *less than 20%* (and the long term rate even lower)
where as the general divorce rate in the USA is 49%...which is also the
general experience in Canada as well...seems that western men DON'T
have
to put up with bitter western feminist girlies after all ;-)
annnnd...it looks like Marg and Cat and Parg/Hyerdahl have a serious
case
of SOUR GRAPES... :-)

Marriages to Latin women fare even better.

Catholics look at marriage as a sacrament.

Really? I didn't know that.

(I'm Catholic.)
