Wow Marg! I must say, that's an incredibly honest post from you.
I have heard Heidi and others imply that somehow buying their home
was a result of some kind of super business saavy on their part that
put them in the league of Bill Gates or Kasparov or something.

Once again you're exaggerating. I started off with a small
bungalow..something I could actually afford. My husband also had something
modest. After we married, he sold his house and we used those proceeds to
enlarge my house. We then sold that newly enlarged house and bought acreage
and built a new large house. We took a series of logical steps...going from
small to midsize, to something much larger.

However, *location* is vitally important. The Lower Mainland of BC is an
enclosed area...mountains, ocean and the US border. The population influx
has been steady and ongoing since the founding of BC. This growth is not
expected to slow down. Real estate values have pretty much gone in cycles
of rise, stall, and take a small step back before leaping two strides ahead.
BC is also turning into a playground for the rich and famous. However,
since these rich folk need workers, they also have to bear in mind they have
to allow for some affordable housing. This means either paying workers
more, or allow for some sort of subsidized housing grants.

Right now, the new Asian immigrants are finding that the one million dollar
tiny bungalows in Vancouver are a bargain compared to the price of a small
concrete cubicle in Hong Kong. And if I were to put my property up for
sale, it would end up in a bidding war. I'd end up with more than the
asking price. The unique features of my property make it that desirable.
