MCP, when I look out my window, I see huge towering cedar trees. I
forbid my husband to cut those down. He recognized the wisdom of my
words and he's extremely glad he abided by my wishes. He sees all these
new sub-division sprawling around us with nary a tree in sight and he's
extremely happy we have all our wonderful huge trees on our property. We
have our own mini-climate, a sort of environmental bubble, that
generates clean fresh air just for us. It's cool for the summer, and
protected in winter...and hubby is in his glory! The big black teddy
bears love it, too. ;-)

So I feel sorry for you, man! I did live in the West End of Vancouver, BC
for a few years. I was on the 18th floor in a 31-story highrise. What made
it tolerable to live in that concrete cubicle was that the building was
located right next to the beach, the ocean, and a park. I also had a lovely
view of the mountains and night-time city lights. Sometimes the fog would
come rolling in. At street level everything would grey and gloomy, but by
the time I reached the 18th floor I was in bright sunshine above the clouds.
What an awesome feeling! Everything I needed was also within walking
distance and busing to work was no problem. It was great to live in the
city while I was still single. But I cannot imagine raising kids in such a
concrete jungle.
