Should a man be required to give 50% of everything he owns to his soon
to be ex-wife in the case of divorce, if her contribution to the
acquisition of the total wealth was indirect? The answer is yes. Does
this surprise you? Well it shouldn't and here's why.

the story of your life

Picture Diane (your future mother), a young woman still in school
studying to become a doctor. At the same time she meets John -- the man
whose nuts you're swimming in -- and they both fall in love. After a
few months of courtship, your mother becomes pregnant, and even though
the timing could not be worse, your parents decide to get married
before the birth of their child: you.
With both parents studying and three mouths to feed, the couple quickly
falls into debt. There was not enough money to support the education of
both your parents. Only one spouse could continue to study. Therefore
it was decided that your mother stay home and take care of you -- in
order to save on tuition and day care fees -- and take a part-time
night job to help pay for your father's education while he continued
his studies.

Eight years later, your father becomes a top surgeon and the family now
lives very comfortably. Because money is no longer an issue, your
father preferred that your mother stay home and raise the children --
you and your three-year-old sister (that's right, you have a younger
sister).

Unfortunately, as time passed, your parents grew apart and your father
began to secretly date a much younger female nurse. Then, without any
warning, your father filed for divorce and married his young mistress,
leaving your mother, sister and yourself nothing but $900 in a savings
account and a $300 monthly child support allowance for both children.

Because your father and his new wife decided to keep the house, the
rest of you are forced to move into a two-room apartment. Things become
very difficult, and in order to make ends meet, your mother has to make
many sacrifices.

Let's be fair here... Next >>
