Woman found badly burned, girl, 12, charged with assault
A 12-year-old girl has been charged with aggravated assault, several
days after a badly burned woman was found behind a video store in La
Ronge, Sask.
The girl is in custody, and will appear in youth court in the northern
Saskatchewan town on Monday. Her name cannot be released under terms of
the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
This arrest comes a few days after another 12-year-old girl was charged
with three counts of first-degree murder after three bodies were found
in Medicine Hat, Alta.
La Ronge RCMP arrested the girl after a clerk in the video store found
a 26-year-old woman lying on the grass behind the store. The woman had
serious burns, ripped clothes and was bleeding.
"Her upper half was torched," the clerk told the Canadian Press. "Her
shoulders and arms, it looked like someone physically took a torch to
her. Her skin was bubbled and it was kind of yellowish."
The victim was taken to hospital in La Ronge before being airlifted to
Saskatoon and then to the specialized burn unit at the University of
Alberta Hospital.
The identity of the victim has not been released.
