I love google. I've been doing this newgroup thing for years and
pissing and moaning about simple changes to make the experience more
enriching and fun. Google just upgraded it's usenet and groups
newsreader and made all the changes I wanted.
Now each poster has his own page with all his posts and a profile, plus
now we can rate the threads and warn folks about people like Turin!!
Thanks Google for not only "doing no harm", but helping us good people.

One really nice thing about Motzarella is that they also support using IP port 80. ... OT: Threading in Usenet. ... You seem to be confused by the Usenet data model, assuming that it has some construct called a thread, and which has a Subject that can be changed. ... The newsreader or other interface itself creates "threads" by looking at the references in the headers. ... I believe that Google used to create threads based on the Subject rather than on header reference chaining, but I don't think it is that dumb anymore. ... Most news interfaces, including Google Groups, will list the thread under the Subject of the original message, and will retain posts with changed Subject lines under that existing thread. ...
