was there a husband
in the royal family in NL or Belgium what was a born German and
member of the Nazi party? I`m not sure.
Princess Juliana, then young and newly married to Prince
Bernhard of Lippe-Bisterfeld (Germany.) Juliana and Bernhard
also went into exile (Juliana to safety in Canada, Bernhard
to the Dutch HQ in England where he served in uniform
throughout the war.)
I think it must be Bernhard he is referring to since he actually was a member of the NSDAP when young and living in Germany. Though by all accounts this was a matter of pragmatism for an ambitious young man to get ahead (and he was nothing if not ambitious).
Though initially mistrusted by the British he certainly served honourably throughout the war and afterwards became a sort of mascot for the Dutch resistance.
