Finland June 1941

Immediately before Hitler attacked Russia, the Finnish had stated that
they were willing to join Germany against Soviet Union. German forces
were being moved into Finland and some joint ventures were conducted by
the German and Finnish troops. In border areas Finnish civilians were
moved out. Just before the conflict Finnish and German naval forces were
mining the areas around Finland, with one Finnish submarine mining the
areas around Estonia.

Did Finland know of the coming attack by Hitler on Russia? Surely they
must have known something was happening?

After Germany attacked the Soviet Union, Finland immediately declared
itself neutral. However German bombers were using Finnish bases to
refuel their planes and flying though Finnish air space to attack USSR.

The Russians probably did not like any of this so!

After three days, early on the morning of June 25, the Soviet Union
unleashed a major air offensive against 18 Finnish cities with 460
planes, mainly striking civilian targets[23] and airfields. The Soviet
Union justified the attack as being directed against German targets in
Finland, but even the British embassy had to admit that this was not so.
German targets were not hit. A small number of Soviet infantry launched
attacks over the Finnish side of the border in Parikkala. A meeting of
parliament was scheduled for June 25 when Prime Minister Rangell had
been due to present a notice about Finland's neutrality in the Soviet-
German war, but the Soviet bombings led him to instead observe that
Finland was once again at war with the Soviet Union.

Knowing that the war was on, could Finland have gotten out of the
conflict on June 25 or was it too late?
