If you are referring to the Marshall plan, this wasn't an altruistic move by
the US. It was primarily a means of preventing a post-war slump in the US
economy and securing increased access for US goods and services to the
post-war continental European economies. It is political spin that positions
it as being primarily motivated by either anti-communist or humanitarian
reasons.
