The US privately were talking of refusing to help the British around Burma/India, unless India was made independent - the US always wanted to implant their corporations in empire countries and get at those markets. Churchill threatened to resign, saying he was not in the business of dismantling His Majesties empire. The US quietly forgot it. The US were looking at how they could be in a better commercial situation post war every opportunity.

And then we wrecked the whole scheme by spending an enormous amount of money to rebuild Western Europe's economy and industry.

The Marshall Plan. After WW2 the USA feared another depression and that they would revert right back the 1930s. There was a depression post WW1 too. They did not want to make the mistakes of post WW1. The USA made a net profit on WW2. They used this money to create markets and implant their corporations (US foreign policy for about the last 100 years it seems) and keep the USA working. The plan was for the benefit of the USA, they did not do it out of the goodness of their hearts. Saying that, it worked.
