First I've heard of that -- the Soviets had a pretty good intelligence
system as well as noticing the obvious (the size of the bulge).
Burleigh should have indicated how the intell was passed to the Soviets,
anyone can make a blanket assertion about anything. If they don't back it
up with an explanation (as well as footnotes/sources), I wouldn't put much
stock into what they're stating. It is possible that the Brits did tell
the Soviets without disclosing how they came upon the information (all
sides did that alot during the war, as a matter of fact, that's how it's
still done).

In Michael Burleigh's excellent book "The Third Reich" he states that
intelligence concerning
the forthcoming Kursk offensive (Operation Citadel) was passed from BP to
Moscow.
Does anyone know how that was done? I have never heard of Russian liaison
officers in the UK
so I assume it was done by the Allies in Russia itself. I am talking
about official channels rather
than "other" means.

A bit more digging indicates that it certainly did happen. There is a
transcript of
an interview with Harry Hinsley (who I consider to be a primary source!)
where
he explicitly states that information was passed to the Russians (plus the
actions
of a Russian agent within BP [Cairncross?] ) here
http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/security/Historical/hinsley.html I am
curious to
know how this information was passed over.
Additionally has anything come out with any certainty concerning the role of
Alexander Foote within the Lucy spy ring? He probably/possibly/maybe was
an British agent tasked with passing BP ino to the Russians in a format that
they would believe.
