Ah, good point. Hadn't thought of that! Even the B-29 had to make a
diving "breakaway turn" (or at least that's what the crews did;
perhaps it wasn't strictly necessary?).
I have read that both dropping a/c were buffeted quite severely even
after the maneuver. I also read that the turn involved was much
steeper and tighter then anything previously done with a B-29 in
operations and was seen by the pilots, at least initially, as a hairly
maneuver.
