You know damned well that if they were at Tule Lake it was because
their sympathies were known to the authorities.
Of course, but not known to the authorities at the time of the
evacuation.
Tule Lake was not changed from an ordinary relocation center to a
special segregation center for disloyals until 18 months after the
evacuation was authorized. By that time considerable screening had
been accomplished and the worst of the elements in the 10 relocation
centers had been culled out and assigned to Tule Lake where they
promptly lived up to their reputations.
