I often speak of the Pacific War, since it is difficult to speak of
WWII in the Pacific.

Pacific War: Dec 1941 - Aug 1945.

Perhaps from a Americocentric perspective. However, Australia and New
Zealand are in the 'Pacific theatre', and both of those nations were very
much involved in WW2 before December 1941.

While Australia and New Zealand are in the Pacific, and contributed
quite a bit to the BC&E war effort well before December 1941, their
contributions were primarily in the Middle East, which isn't part
of the Pacific.

There was very little fighting going on in the Pacific until the
Japanese attacked. Therefore, I think the Pacific War is properly
dated from December 7, 1941 onwards.

After all, we don't speak of the "South American Theater" normally,
even though Brazil committed significant forces to the fighting in
Italy.
