There is a Leon Uris novel, _The Angry Hills_, about this period. It's
not about the air war, but you might find it interesting.
The RAF, Royal Navy, and the British Army all fought very
bravely in Greece, but it was hopeless from the beginning.
My understanding from Churchill's history is that Churchill
ordered a major effort on behalf of the Greeks more for
reasons of national honor than out of hope of success. He
felt that the Greeks were fighting so bravely that, to fail to
help them, would be a blot on British honor.
This brings up the question of what constitutes a "militarily
justified" battle plan vs. one that is "political", as discussed
in another thread.
It is possible that, had the Brits not fought in Greece, they
might have held North Africa more securely against the
Afrika Corps.
Or maybe not.
