That appears to be the case. I would not at all be surprised that the
names of the D-Day beaches were retired shortly after the landings.
After all, you wouldn't want an 18-year-old clerk typist claiming in
1945 that he'd just landed on Omaha Beach!
In practical terms, the term D-Day was also retired. Up to June 6,
1944, it means the day of any proposed operation, as H-Hour designated
the hour. Thereafter, D-Day has been pretty much restricted to
Normandy on the 6th of June.
